Lost in Space will return for its second season in 2019! Here’s what we know so far about season 2 including the official December 2019 release date, who’s starring in Lost in Space season 2, plot, details and more.
Netflix’s Lost in Space is a reboot and modern reimagining of the 1960s show of the same name and the movie that followed (no longer on Netflix, unfortunately).
This series centers on a colonist family who crash-lands on remote planets after their spacecraft is destroyed by alien robots.
Many colonists and the Robinson family were barely able to survive the attack. The colonists crash landed on a foreign, but still habitable, and must survive to find their way home to The Resolute, their mothership.
When it was released, the series received mixed reviews. While the series hasn’t been given critical acclaim, viewing figures and fan opinion was high enough for Netflix to greenlight a second season.
*Spoilers ahead for season 1
The Robinson’s failed to make it back to The Resolute in time as an alien engine on their ship Jupiter 2 activated, warping both the ship and the crew to an entirely different galaxy. As the engine was taken, it was actually an attempt to retrieve the alien robot.
The Resolute had been attacked originally because of this. Their galaxy is very similar to Will's sand drawing. Will was given the alarming warning by the robot.
The Robinson’s will be seeking a way to leave the solar system they have been warped to. Not only are they at risk of the alien’s possible attempt to retrieve the stolen tech onboard Jupiter 2, but the two collapsing stars in the solar system could go supernova and the consequential blast would kill all life within it.
Maxwell Jenkins as Will Robinson (far left), Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson (center left), Taylor Russell as Judy Robinson (center right), and Mina Sundwall as Penny Robinson (far right).
Speaking to PopCulture in June 2019, Max Jenkins who plays Will Robinson said that season 2 is “going to be bigger than ever.” adding “We have Alex Grace as our producing director, he directed a few of the episodes in this season, and he’s really an amazing director, great person and great friend.”
We’ve had the first details drop on one of the planets we’ll be visiting in season 2. Oceans will dominate the new planet.
While there hasn’t been any casting news as of yet, it has been reported that Sibongile Mlambo, the actress who portrays Abigail, is being promoted to a series regular. The core cast of characters survived last season's adventures and will return for Season 2.

Season 2 production has concluded. It began September 2018 and ended in February 2019. The filming was then completed in February 2019, and then it went into post production.
Filming took place in some amazing locations once more for the show. Squamish and Manning Park were among the many locations used for filming. Jupiter II appears to be a fully fleshed-out set without any green screen.
Post-production began in the summer, with details beginning to leak throughout the fall.
Vancouver, Canada was the location of filming again.

We did report earlier in the year that it’s likely to release on Netflix sometime in November 2019. The reason for this is that we spotted an Amazon listing for a book that’s “timed to coincide with the debut of season 2.” The description was altered soon after our report.
Nothing has been decided just regarding Lost in Space’s future. CheatSheet has been informed by the show's creators that they know the future direction of the series and the ending. With that said, the show’s creators have already started writing season 3 saying: “They kind of let you write on it and then they don’t give you the greenlight until after the show comes out,”
